The state-owned company blamed the strike action on the disruption that would be caused by the one-hour stop work meetings on Wednesday morning, afternoon and Thursday morning.
''After examining the very long list of services that would be disrupted, it became clear we could not provide passengers with any certainty next Wednesday," chief executive Heather Haselgrove said this morning.
“This raised the real risk of students being either stranded for hours waiting for a bus in the morning or stranded after school and that is simply untenable,” Ms Haselgrove said.
Unions Tasmania slammed the move as extreme.
"The Metro management action in locking out employees next week is malicious, unnecessary and irresponsible," Unions Tasmania secretary Kevin Harkins said.
