Hall wins ninth title in a row

LAUNCESTON golfer Tammy Hall won her ninth straight Northern women's golf championship yesterday at the Launceston Golf Club.

Taking a two-shot lead into the final day, Hall scored 117 through 27 holes on Monday  to finish with 237 after 54.

Runner-up Maree Coulson carded 251, while Lorraine Jones completed a good day for Launceston by winning the handicap with 226.

Hall now has 19 titles to her name, having won her first in 1984.

Hall put her success down to longevity.

``I was pretty steady all through the day, just fairly consistent, nothing flash,'' she said.

``I love these local tournaments, playing with all my friends.''

Having represented Tasmania for 17 years, Hall said she was considering a comeback for this year's interstate event, to be hosted at Royal Hobart.

In the B-grade championship, Judy McKendrick came from behind to win by one stroke from fellow Launceston golfer Jenny Hubbard.

Golf Tasmania North secretary Rob Fitzgerald said the event was run without any problems, noting that numbers were slightly down from last year.
