David Jurgens was so moved by what was happening he started an appeal on Facebook and has rallied friends, neighbours and even the Ravenswood IGA to donate items.

``I just started this on Facebook, just asking if anyone wanted to donate to those affected,'' Mr Jurgens said yesterday.

Within minutes people were posting messages of support and saying they had items to donate.

Mr Jurgens also approached the Ravenswood IGA, which is collecting cash donations and has put trolleys at the front of the store so people can purchase an extra item and donate it as they leave.

Store manager Sarah Garwood said they had filled about 12 trolleys of goods so far with everything from soap, toilet paper, nappies and non-perishable food.

She said the community was often given a bad rap but there were many good people who were going out of their way to help those affected by the bushfires.

Ravenswood Neighbourhood House's Sharon Leonard spent a whole day standing in front of the store collecting donations from shoppers for the cause.

All donations are being delivered to ARB 4X4 Accessories at Invermay, which is transporting the goods to Hobart for distribution.

ARB donation co-ordinators Carissa and Justin Cook said they had a team of volunteers sorting through the donations and had also been inundated with offers from other companies to help transport the goods.

Carissa Cook suggested good items to donate included water, non-perishable food, cleaning items such as buckets, gloves, long-sleeve tops and face masks.
