The 23-year-old Invermay Bowls Club member enjoyed a successful Asia-Pacific championships in Adelaide from November 28-December 11, as part of the Australian team which saw her win a gold medal in the women's triples, silver in the women's fours and a second gold for the overall team's event.

The tournament involved 15 countries taking part in the 14-day competition.

``It was the biggest event I've ever played in and my first international gold medal which was pretty exciting,'' Quail said.

``I haven't had it confirmed but I think it is also Tasmania's first international gold medal.''

Quail said that the Australian team medalled in every discipline it contested and won the men's and women's overall team gold medals.

``It was very exciting and good preparation for the world championships in Adelaide later this year,'' she said.

The part-time university student said that the Australian squad for the world championships will be announced at the end of this month.

Twelve men and 12 women will be picked in initial squads and then shortlisted to the final team of five men and women through selection camps, trials and tournaments.

``Hopefully from our good showing at the Asia-Pacifics our team will make the squad but it's just a matter of keeping up good performances and staying in the eyes of selectors,'' she said.

``We've got a six-nation test event in May and our trans-Tasman challenge in September which I'd like to make too.''

Quail continued her good form from the Asia-Pacific tournament winning her third Tasmanian women's singles title in Hobart last week.

She said that the victory was a great way to start 2012 with a busy schedule coming up next month including a test series for Tasmania against Victoria and the Australian Open.

``I've already qualified for the singles, pairs and triples at the Australian Open which is one of Australia's biggest marquee events,'' she said.
