Rumours were rife in Northern football circles yesterday that Chugg and the Bulldogs had parted company.
It is understood that Chugg was informed by the club after training on Tuesday night that he had lost the confidence of the players. Chugg could not be contacted for comment yesterday.
Bulldogs president Ian Goninon declined to comment on the coaching situation when contacted by The Examiner yesterday.
But South Launceston sent out a media alert advising of a press conference at Youngtown at 11am today, flagging a major announcement.
It is understood that Bulldogs assistant coach Max Pearce or co-captain Mitchell Hills could be in contention to take over the senior coaching role for the remainder of the season.
Hills suffered a severe knee injury on Saturday against Launceston, which is expected to sideline him for the rest of the year.
South Launceston has been struggling for on-field success this season and is yet to win a game after five rounds.
The club suffered a 150-point thrashing against the Blues in its last game.
The Bulldogs lost about 10 to 12 senior players at the end of last season.
They have been State League wooden spooners for the past two seasons.
