LAUNCESTON sprinter Andrew Robinson is hoping to have an impact at the upcoming Christmas carnival series and is focused on the Latrobe carnival on Boxing Day.

The 18-year-old runner is trained by Launceston coach Fay Denholm and likes the 100 and 200-metre events as his speciality.
"They are my stronger events but I've done a few 300m and 400m to get my strength for those but I will be focused on those ones," he said.
Robinson has just finished year 12 at Scotch Oakburn College and has been involved in the sport since taking up little athletics at the age of five.
He has been sprinting seriously for the past three years but has had his best pre-season so far with victories in the Launceston Show 300m and the Simplot and Ulverstone Gifts.
"I've competed at the carnivals before and I find them challenging and motivating," Robinson said.
"It's a lot different to just normal training and going out to inter-club and running and provides a good alternative.
"The atmosphere is a buzz and even if you don't do well it's good just to watch and enjoy them."
Robinson expects to run off a mark of 8.25 metres in the Latrobe Gift heats.
"I've won two races off that mark over 120m so it's been working for me so far so hopefully I can continue it," he said.
"I've been really happy with the way I'm going.
"I've been running PBs and haven't missed a final this year so far.
"I've had lots of placings and three wins so that's been really good and there have been positive signs for me."
