Ulverstone opened the scoring through Brayden Mann and doubled the lead through Jason Singleton.
Rhys Kinslow brought it back to 2-1 after he was played in behind the defence to tap in one-on-one with the keeper before the break.
But Shaun Conkie, playing as a target man up front, netted his first goal on debut for the club in the second half.
South Hobart dominated play in the first half against Launceston United and was up 3-0 at the break.
United played more directly after the restart and were rewarded for their effort with two goals to Thors Niemly.
The host had an equaliser disallowed for offside and South Hobart scored in the final minutes of the match. Andy Brennan's hat-trick took him to the top of the goal scorers while Brazilian import Mizael Linhares Caires scored the other goal.
Northern Rangers opened its preseason account with a 4-1 win against New Town Eagles.
New signing Agele Luate scored twice in the first half and Christ Hunt added one for Rangers to lead 3-0 at the break.
Eagles striker Adam McKeown replied after the restart but Hunt scored his second to restore the three-goal buffer.
In the last match of the day, Launceston City led Glenorchy Knights 1-0, courtesy of an Antony Macri strike but Knights replied late in the game to secure a point.
