A GYROCOPTER pilot has escaped injury after his plane crashed into the Tamar River at Clarence Point near Beaconsfield this morning. The 59-year-old Queensland man was was pulled from the water by a the crew of a recreational fishing boat and taken to shore.Police say it appears at this stage that the gyroplane experienced some type of in-flight control failure."The pilot was extremely lucky to survive the incident uninjured as it appears the gyroplane entered the water upside down," said Acting Inspector Jason Elmer, of George Town police."He is a very experienced pilot but is nonetheless a very lucky man," he said. The gyroplane has not been recovered at this stage and its exact location is not known given the depth of the water and the strong currents in the area it went down. An investigation into the accident will be conducted.
