Releasing the report of the Review of the role and function of Tasmania's public VET providers, Mr McKim said the Government had accepted most of the 60 recommendations made in the report.
He said TasTAFE would be a ``one-stop-shop for both industry and individuals''.
``This decision means that we will move from what is currently a fragmented and inefficient structure to one that is coherent, connected and streamlined.''
Mr McKim said while low-level qualifications would be offered across the state, centres of excellence would be established as part of the new system which would be aligned with local industries.
Mr McKim said the new model was not a return to the previous TAFE Tasmania model but rather keeping the best aspects of the Tasmania Tomorrow reforms which created the Polytechnic and Skills Institute and rolling those into a more efficient entity.
He said the use of the TAFE name was important in creating a clearly recognised organisation.
``TAFE is well understood locally, nationally and internationally,'' he said.
A phased implementation is expected to begin in July next year and by completed by July 2014.
