Bachelor of business and maritime logistics management graduate Vanessa Low has been studying full-time in Singapore for 3 1/2 years.

"It's the first time someone's done the entire program by distance education," Ms Low said.

"This is my first time in Tasmania, my whole family is here with me for the graduation."

She said doing the course from home wasn't as stressful, but she needed a harder work-ethic.

"It requires a lot of self- study," Ms Low said.

"I might consider the honours program but do it locally instead of part-time in Singapore."

She was inspired to do the course by her father, who works within the maritime industry.

"He got me started with the whole idea of this course," Ms Low said.

Naval architecture student Sean Van Steel is glad to have a break after four years of study.

"I'm originally from Sydney and grew up around boats," Mr Van Steel said.

"I have a knack for maths, put the two together and came up with naval architecture."

He said he could have done the course in Sydney, but was drawn to Tasmania.

Launceston's graduation ceremonies will be at 11am for Australian Maritime College, faculty of business, science, engineering and technology and board of graduate research students, 2.30pm for faculty of arts, health science and board of graduate research students and at 5.30pm for the faculty of education and board of graduate research students.

The town and gown procession will travel from Civic Square to the Albert Hall at 10.30am.
