MOST little girls are enchanted by the idea of fairies at some point.
The gardens of Elphin House in Launceston will be the place where such fantasies sprout wings this Saturday as every man, woman and their children are invited to the Fairies in the Garden event.
The whimsical day of activities and treats will see all proceeds go to the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust's work on juvenile, type one diabetes.
Lady (Sallie) Ferrall has hosted the event in her garden most years since 2002 and hopes to once again attract a crowd in support of the cause.
Last year was washed out, but still managed to attract about 600 people and raise $6000 for the trust. Launceston Friends of Clifford Craig member Toni Maloney said she expected that amount to be topped this year.
"People are very generous and we are very lucky to have such a good following," she said.
Besides a dancing display by ballet students from the Tasmanian Academy of Dance, there will be a cake and sweets stall, plants and produce, Devonshire teas and gardening advice with Les Hodge.
Children who come dressed to participate in the fairy parade will also be given free ice cream.
