The government announced the School Transition Fund as part of the budget to encourage interested public schools to close or merge with neighbouring ones.
Mr McKim said that there had been no more talks between schools and the department since the announcement on May 17.
Schools in the North named on the government's original closures hit-list and contacted yesterday - Avoca, Bracknell, Meander and Ringarooma - said that they were not interested in closing or amalgamating.
``Not at this stage but we'll always keep an open mind,'' Meander Primary School association chairman Brad Clark said.
Avoca Primary School chairwoman Lyn Williams said that the impact on their community would be felt far more than if a school in Launceston was to close.
One Northern school principal said that he doubted if any regional school in the state would consider closing for the money.
However he said that some of the smaller schools in Launceston may consider it if they had a continuing decline in enrolments and were in close proximity to another.
Within Launceston itself there are two schools with less than 200 enrolments - Rocherlea Primary School and Waverley Primary School, while Mayfield Primary School has just over that figure.
