The former Hobartian has returned to the state after 12 years in Western Australia as a teacher and then principal in two remote communities in the Kimberley and Pilbara region.
She took over the role at Ravenswood last week and said it had been a bit of an adjustment to settle back into a cooler climate and life in a regional city, but was ready for the challenge.
``One of the key things for me is bringing the child and family centre and school closer together and to encourage families from a very early age about the importance of schooling,'' Mrs Roestenburg said.
``My priority at Ravenswood is to really make it a school of choice, it's certainly got some very positive and dedicated staff.''
Mrs Roestenburg came to the school from the Meekatharra District High School, which is 800 kilometres north of Perth.
Before that she spent two years at the Burringurrah Remote Community School, which is a further 300 kilometres north-west from Meekatharra.
Education Minister Nick McKim said there were 28 new principals because of retirements and movements within the Education Department this term.

Kings Meadows High School: Ann Fedyk.
Prospect High School: Cary Stocks.
Ravenswood Heights Primary School: Britany Roestenburg.
