A police spokesman said a member of the public had found the bags last night near the ambulance station in Strahan Street near the train line.

"The offenders may have been disturbed or may have planned to return and collect the stolen property at a later time," the spokesman said.

"Although a full audit is to be conducted, it appears that all of the stolen medication has been recovered. The only item that remains outstanding at this time is a yellow Dolphin brand torch."

A quantity of medical items and equipment was taken from the ambulance station including trauma and resuscitation kits and cardiac medications.

Police say they have received a report that a vehicle parked nearby was damaged but cannot yet confirm when this incident occurred and if it is related.

The vehicle had been parked in that location for five days before the burglary of the ambulance station.

The Burnie incident coincided with the vandalising of an ambulance at New Town early Saturday morning.

Detective Sergeant Lauren Bain, of Burnie CIB, said that crimes such as this have the potential to affect not only the Tasmanian Ambulance Service, but all members of the community, who are disadvantaged by the loss of resources and the cost of replacement items and repairs to damage.
