The 38-year-old British national who lives in South Launceston was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.
Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Riley, of Launceston CIB, said the incident allegedly occurred during an examination by the man on November 15.
Detective Senior Sergeant Riley would not elaborate on the alleged details of the offence.
Under the Tasmanian Criminal Code, a charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault requires the penetration of the anus, vagina or genitalia in some way by another person.
Detective Senior Sergeant Riley said the man has been suspended from practice pending the result of a medical board hearing.
The man pleaded not guilty to the charges before Magistrate Robert Pearce at a Launceston court this morning.
He was remanded in custody to reappear in court on November 25.
