CONSTRUCTION workers began the complex process of filling in a 10,000-square-metre hole with concrete at the Launceston Airport earlier this week.

The work is a part of a $6 million upgrade of the airport's southern apron set to improve the rundown section and increase freight capacity.
Airport general manager Pamela Graham said the apron's load limit would be increased by four times to 80,000 kilograms.
``The pavement there was very old and very damaged so we are completely upgrading the area which includes drainage, some apron lighting and it will also provide two extra aircraft positions to enable us to service more aircraft,'' Mrs Graham said.
