Tasmania Police put out the alert on Monday morning, advising that the entire road had been closed.
Dove Lake Road and parts of the Lyell Highway (between Derwent Bridge and Lake Burbury) have also been closed.
It follows a weather warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology over the weekend about potential wild winds, snowfall and black ice across Monday.
A road weather alert has also been issued by BOM, with snow covered roads above approximately 300m expected to make driving conditions "dangerous during Monday, about parts of the North West Coast, West Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts."
Icy and dangerous road conditions are expected to continue in "most parts of Tasmania" on Tuesday morning.

Bushwalkers have also been advised that snow could fall as low as 300m across the day, gradually rising to above 700m this evening.
BOM said these conditions were expected across the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts.
