The Inland Fisheries Service released 105,000 brown trout fry and 18,270 adult brown trout during the year.

A further 15,302 adult rainbow trout and 1477 rainbow trout fry were released, as well as 26 adult brook trout, 5000 brook trout fry and 929 adult Atlantic salmon.

"The Inland Fisheries Service recognises the value of maintaining wild fisheries as they are best suited to our environment and provide a much sought after angling experience," the state government organisation said in its recently released stocking report.

"We only stock waters when wild populations are not adequately maintained by natural recruitment and we use wild fish whenever possible."

Fish stocked in inland waters during the year included fish from the Salmon Ponds hatchery and commercial fish farms, wild fish trapped from Central Highlands spawning runs and wild fish electrofished from streams.

Bradys Lake, in the Central Highlands, received 4865 adult brown trout.

Curries River Reservoir, north of Launceston , was stocked with 2016 adult brown trout and 60,000 fry.

A further 2869 adult brown trout were put into Four Springs Lake, north of Westbury.

The Pet Dam, near Burnie, received 980 adult brown trout and Lake Leake, on the East Coast, 1203.

South Riana Dam, south of Burnie, got 35,000 brown trout fry.

Four Springs Lake also received 2500 adult rainbow trout and Lake Leake 2000.

Brushy Lagoon, Craigbourne Dam, Curries River Reservoir, the Pet Reservoir and Dee Lagoon, south of the Great Lake, all took 1000 or more.

Atlantic salmon were stocked in Brushy Lagoon, Craigbourne Dam and Lake Kara, near Hampshire.

Water Minister Jo Palmer recently announced to tagged brown trout would be released into 15 state waters ahead of the angling season, worth $2000 each for whoever caught them.

"This season will be a real catch, as it also includes a number of fish that remain uncaught from the previous year's promotion," Ms Palmer said.

"It's no wonder fishing in Tasmania is so popular; our waters have one of the purest strains of wild brown trout."
