Latrobe Football Club president Greg Donald said the club was devastated by the loss of teenager Lockie Stones, who was killed in the crash that also killed his grandmother, 68-year-old Eileen Murfet.

Mr Donald said the club was banding together and supporting the family as much as they could, just as Lockie had supported the club when it was in need.

"Under 16s player, Lockie Stones, was a quiet and reserved young man who shone on the football field," Mr Donald said.

"He hadn't planned to play this year but answered the call of his mates to help as they didn't have enough players.

"This was typical of this selfless young man."

Mr Donald said Lockie's number 20 jersey would be retired in his memory.

"Your presence around the club, and on the football field, will be greatly missed by your team mates, coach and all the members of our club.

"The #20 jumper will always be yours Lockie. Rest in Peace."

Mr Donald said the club's sympathies and condolences were with the family.

On Facebook, the North West Football League also shared a post by the Latrobe Football Club, and said the league's thoughts were with the Stones family and the Latrobe community.
