Tasmania Police Deputy Commissioner Donna Adams said there had been 12 incidents of family or sexual violence involving police officers in the past year.

This includes four police officers who are perpetrators, and five police officers who are victims.

"All reported incidents are recorded, and the outcomes depend on the findings of the investigation," Deputy Commissioner Adams said.

"Three police officers have been issued with a police family violence order, when this occurs, they are immediately made non-operational. One police officer is currently facing charges ... and is also non-operational."

Deputy Commissioner Adams said the committee would be formally established under the final Family and Sexual Violence Involving Police Policy, with consultation involving Tasmania Police members and external stakeholders ending today.

"This feedback will be collated and the policy will be finalised in the coming weeks. A number of features of the policy and the review committee are already being trialled."

Police Minister Jacquie Petrusma said the review committee would become the peak body within the Tasmania Police review structure.

"Its key duties will be to provide timely review of incidents involving police, and ensure that decision making is evidence based, consistent with legislation and appropriately documented, that there is no perception of bias and no conflicts of interest," she said.

"And importantly, that there is support provided to, and trust built, with victim survivors."

Deputy Commissioner Adams said the other members of the independent committee included a commander of professional standards, a manager of the Safe Families Co-ordination Centre, a member from legal services and a victims' representative with lived experience.

"To support the policy, a dedicated police family violence investigator has been appointed - this will allow victims to report directly to professional standards if they are not comfortable reporting to local police," she said.
