Northern Drug Investigation Services and the Police Dog Handing Unit members were conducting routine screening at Launceston Airport, of passengers arriving on a flight from Melbourne on Wednesday.
During screening a police drug detection dog made a positive indication on a male passenger who was subsequently searched, and 80grams of Methamphetamine was located.
The drugs have an estimated street value of $80,000.
The 27-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Newnham, were taken into custody and detained whilst further investigations continued.
The man was later charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and other minor offences whilst the woman was charged with minor drug offences, unlawful possession of property and possessing ammunition.
Northern CIB Detective Inspector Craig Fox said: "Tasmania Police remain committed to screening the air, sea and mail corridors into Tasmania for all illicit drugs".
Both were bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
