Department of Education secretary Tim Bullard said more staff members had been stood down since last year following an independent investigation of the department's handling of child abuse allegations.

The Education Department has stood down 32 employees in the past 12 to 18 months over historical allegations or "matters of concern" regarding conduct with children.
