Labor leader Rebecca White in Parliament on Wednesday questioned whether Mr Finch had received a golden handshake to leave his former position, which earned a salary of between $238,000 and $275,000 a year.
She further questioned whether he would put in charge of the government's proposal to develop a $750 million floating stadium near Hobart's waterfront.
Mr Rockliff said he was not aware of any payout.
"As he was seconded from the state service to ministerial and parliamentary service, he will be returning to the state service," he said.
"As a government, we're looking at options in relation to a suitable position in line with his employment contract."
