A crowd of 14,107 watched the contest, which saw the Hawks start with authority before the Swans charged home.
"Launceston turns it on for us, we knew it was a sellout as much as a week ago, so that was great to be down here," Mitchell said post game.
"Even coming down [Sunday], the sun was out and the ground was in beautiful condition.
"A lot of our players and the coaches, they love coming down to Launceston, it was the first time we've been to Launceston for the year and we're looking forward to coming down a few more times this season.
"Unfortunately we couldn't put on the show that the locals deserved."
The crowd was the biggest at the ground since the Hawks faced Essendon in a Launceston first last season, eclipsing both of the elimination finals figures.
It wasn't all doom and gloom on-field for the Hawks, with Mitchell pointed out improvements from young gun Jai Newcombe, Jaeger O'Meara, Chad Wingard and Jacob Koschitzke.
Newcombe has been one of the Hawks' best for the past two weeks, having 31 and 23 disposals, while O'Meara had 10 tackles as he spent more time in the midfield.
Wingard looked dangerous around the goals and Koschitzke continued his love of UTAS Stadium with three majors.
