The premiership winning coach has recommended that Tasmania be seriously looked at as the AFL's next expansion option in the coming years.
The long-time AFL personality has experience in the field after a 27-year reign coaching Essendon before guiding the AFL's most recent expansion side, GWS Giants, through their formative seasons in the league.
Speaking on 3AW, Sheedy was asked about what expansion locations he would pursue and his second option would see a third side in NSW.
"I would say Newcastle and Tasmania will be the next two teams," he said.
"There are more people in Newcastle than Tasmania. It will get to a million people quicker than Tasmania will."
While Newcastle is yet to be seriously looked at for an AFL side, the league is considering where a potential 20th team could go in order to increase the broadcast deal and revenue into the competition.
The AFL created a taskforce last year to look into whether the Northern Territory could be a suitable option for the 20th licence.
The taskforce included former Melbourne and Essendon chief executive officer Peter Jackson.

Tasmania's bid to be the 19th side is much further along with the likes of four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson helping the state's taskforce.
A decision for Tasmania is expected to be announced in August.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff has reiterated that a Tasmanian team remains a priority for him following the departure of former premier Peter Gutwein.
