In front of a supportive home crowd all week at in Hobart, the state side put it all on the line for state pride across the under-17s and under-19s groups.
Both sides managed to secure a sixth-placed finish at the championships after going down in the fifth-placed play-offs on the final day of the championships. The under-19s went down to Queensland 23-40.
The under-17s were valiant in their attempt to win the fifth-position play-off with only a strong final term from Western Australia preventing Tasmania from claiming higher honours.
The home side regrouped after a slow start to match Western Australia in the second quarter. Tasmania looked like they were going to come home with a wet sail as they outscored Western Australia 8-5 in the third term on the back of some quality feeds into the circle.
It left scores even heading into the final term but Western Australia delivered their highest scoring period of the game, notching 10 goals to two, to win 23-31.
It's really exciting to see what this group of girls can do
- Ellie Marshall on Tasmania's under-17s
Captain Ellie Marshall reflected after the tournament that she was proud of how the under-17s squad came together.
"We got along really well and we're so close and that was great because it was more fun because we all got along so well," she said.
"It's really exciting to see what this group of girls can do because we're winning games which is good and we're playing competitive netball, we're only losing games to the top sides by a few goals so I reckon if we can stay together in the pathway, it's exciting."
Marshall said the home crowd support for the championships had been great for the young side.
"It was exciting to finally be able to do it and to be able to represent your state in your home state," she said.
"It was really good to be able to play in front of the people who have supported you and I guess we had a little advantage because the crowd was always louder for us."
