The former City captain, who is also a talented futsal player, has been a constant presence in the Launceston line-up after going through the junior ranks before entrenching himself in the senior side.
I can put him in almost any position on the field ... and he will never let you down.
- Lino Sciulli on departing player Jarrod Linger
Linger exits the club with Launceston's second most appearances in NPL Tasmania with 112 games and 184 in total. He also took out the Peter Savill Medal last year as the league's best and fairest after being a runner-up for four consecutive years.
Launceston City coach Lino Sciulli paid tribute to his former captain.
"I was there in 2016 and he was just a boy coming through, he was training a little bit with us and when I went to Rangers he developed into one of the starting 11 players," he said.
"I came back to City and he's been there ever since. He's a very good player and he's going to be sorely missed.
"He's versatile and I can put him in almost any position on the field, besides goals I guess and he will never let you down."
While goalkeeper Lachlan Clark wears the armband now, Sciulli praised Linger's conduct as the previous captain.
"He was a very good captain, he did everything that was asked of him and more importantly, he was very good off the park as well," he said.
Linger posted a short farewell video to the club after his departure to Queensland.
"I've been playing state league for the past five or six years and [your] support is always appreciated," he said.
"[The] club is definitely moving in the right direction, sad time to go, hopefully, we can get those club rooms built.
"Everyone I've been involved with over the past few years, hope you guys do well, keep striving to be the best."
On the field, City travel to ladder-leading Glenorchy as the former looks to overturn a run of bad form which has culminated in a league loss to Devonport and a cup loss to Hobart United.
"Our last five halves have been very poor so that's two and a half games and hopefully we can find the remedy to turn that around," Sciulli said.
"If we keep defending and using the ball like we've been doing and if we keep giving the ball away like we have been doing, we'll come away from there with a really poor score."
Riverside head to Clarence in search of their first points in the league this season.
The Zebras are searching for their first points at home in the league after a 2-1 loss to Glenorchy in the last round.
WOMEN'S SUPER LEAGUE
Launceston United will be the hunted when they travel to Taroona who are eyeing their first league win of the season against the top of the table visitors.
After four of Launceston's squad represented Tasmania against Western United on Tuesday, there is a tight turnaround to be ready for league action. Launceston are confident of being near full-strength for the WSL and Northern Championship after altering their training schedule to help the turnaround.
The league leaders are set to be on the road at Kelvedon Park and co-coaches Frank Compton and Lynden Prince will be hoping for a similar end result as their last away trip.
United was successful at Valley Road on the back of Ellie La Monte's double which cancelled out Jazmin White's first-half equaliser.
Despite netting three points, Compton feels there are aspects that his side can further improve on against Taroona.
"It wasn't the perfect performance that we had planned, I thought Devonport played well and on another day they might have walked away with something from the match," Compton said.
"In terms of performance it was certainly plan B for us rather than plan A but if plan B works as well then that's a good sign."
The home side sit bottom of the WSL table, having conceded 22 goals and scored none with no wins to their name. Nevertheless, Launceston is conscious that Taroona is capable of a surprise.
Taroona opened up last season with three losses before winning or drawing seven of their remaining 15 games to close the campaign.
"I think they're going to do the same because they're quite a well-run club and they got a good victory in the cup so we're kind of on alert for a resurgent team," Compton said.
"Especially travelling and being on their home ground so we'll have to make sure our attitude is right."
