Hillwood could have established a strong lead bar some wayward kicking in the first term while the two sides traded goals through the second quarter.
Hillwood and Scottsdale were both well-served by a strong presence in attack throughout the game. Chev Deacon added four goals for the Magpies and Archie Wilkinson notched five goals for the Sharks.
"Archie just hit up all day, he took some knocks on the lead but he got up and took big pack marks, he's a big body and got on the end of a few," Hillwood coach Jake Pearce said.
In the third term, the Magpies departed from the inaccuracy which riddled both sides at times to be ruthlessly efficient in front of goals. They add five goals and only a solitary behind to have the lead of the match heading into the final term.
In that final term, it clicked for the Sharks across the ground as they motored to a five-goal to none final term with the Magpies registering five behinds.
Off-season recruit Hamish Leedham grabbed the ascendancy in the ruck and provided fine service to the Sharks' on-ballers.
"Leedham gave us first use in the ruck for most of the day and was really good as well but we had a lot of contributors today which was pleasing," Pearce said.
There was a reward for the midfield's good work as Wilkinson and Co. converted to ensure the Sharks would head into the Easter break with a win on the board.
"The win was really good, not just for the players but for the community as well," Pearce said.
"It's really exciting and gives the boys some belief that their hard work really does pay-off and it was great to run out four quarters."
Rocherlea highlighted why sides will fear their trips out to the Tigers' fortress with a convincing 13.13 (91) to 2.9 (21) win over George Town.
Josh Holton, Josh Ponting, Brayden Claridge and Andrew Cox-Goodyer were all multiple goalkickers and Rocherlea was impeccable defensively.
The Tigers' pressure across the ground was noticeable all game and their defensive line seemed to work in sync across their assignments on the Saints' attackers.
"The back six did a really good job today which I was thrilled with, it was a team effort, the pressure was really good around the ball which produced a lot of hack kicks and our backs won their one-on-ones," Ponting said.
Zach Burt and Shaun Muller added the visitors' first goals of the match in the third term but Rocherlea added six of their own in a dominant display.
"We had a pretty good week, we got back to what we do well, obviously Scottsdale lowered our colours the week before but we put that behind us," Ponting said.
"We focused on our style of play and that came to the forefront which was pleasing from a coaching perspective."
In the other games of the round, Bracknell maintained their premiership defence with a strong win over Bridgenorth 12.18 (90) to 5.2 (32).
Matthew Dennis led the way with four goals while Josh Holland and Will Fisher continued their good starts to the season for the Redlegs.
Longford added another chapter to their rivalry against South Launceston with a commanding win 12.14 (86) to 3.12 (30).
After a dominant round one display, the Bulldogs always saw the Tigers as a test of their credentials and it proved to be the case.
The saying that attack is built from the defence rang true for Longford as their two best scoring quarters were also the two in which they kept the Bulldogs goalless. They racked up nine goals to none in the first and third terms which accounted for their match-winning lead.
Luke Murfitt-Cowen was a powerful force in attack with five goals closely followed by Jack Donnellan with three goals.
