Established by local business people Jess and Chris Carins of Little Rivers Brewing, Bridport Distilling Co's head distiller Chris infuses locally-sourced farmed and foraged ingredients to craft each of the products.
Drawing on childhood memories of growing up in the north east, each concoctions is designed to connect patrons with the region.
"Both Jess and I were born and bred in north east Tassie and it's very important to me that we recognise the exceptional produce and beautiful places of the area. Each of the products in Bridport Distilling Co.'s range draws on an activity or a memory that we share from growing up here," he said.
"We combine ingredients sourced from friends that have farms in the region with those that we forage ourselves like wild kunzea and Tasmanian pepperberry.
"Lavender from the Bridestowe Lavender Farm and even seawater from Andersons Bay infuse the water we source from the Mt Scott Aquifer, which is naturally purified through rocks hundreds of thousands of years old."
Drawn to the prospect of establishing a distillery and hospitality venue in their hometown, Chris and Jess worked in partnership with landlords, the Krushka family, and Launceston architecture firm S Group to inject life back into the old church.
Custom Tasmanian Oak tables will provide secluded spots for guests to enjoy the local spirits, all crafted onsite, and small tapas plates or platters.
Outside, large tables protected by awnings and braced with heaters keep patrons comfortable as they delight in views over the village green to Andersons Bay.
Jess, who runs the operations and HR side of the business, said that it was great to have the opportunity to establish a hospitality venue in Bridport.
"To invest and provide job opportunities to the community where we were raised and are raising our children was key for us. The new distillery venue is the perfect alignment with the product range inspired by our life here," she said.
