RFDS Tasmania is working in partnership with the Tasmanian Government to use its mobile clinics and increase vaccination rates among primary and high school-aged students.
The government's regional school program will see the RFDS vaccination bus travel to district high schools around the state offering vaccinations to students aged five -18 years or from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
The program will include schools such as Yolla, St Helens, Oatlands, Glenora, Triabunna, Tasman, Dover and Bruny Island. The RFDS schedule includes a total of 26 schools and 61 clinic days.
It will be comprised of first and second doses for both the five-11 years and 12-15 years age cohorts and first, second and booster for those aged 16 and over.
RFDS Tasmania chief executive John Kirwan said the organisation's vaccination buses had played a very important role in reaching rural and remote communities and the RFDS was proud to continue its partnership with the state government and provide a vital service, particularly to younger Tasmanians.
The RFDS buses - donated by the Tasmanian Government in 2020 - have been transformed into mobile health clinics with funds raised by Rotary Tasmania and a Commonwealth Government grant.
