The third edition of the Australian Industrial Hemp Conference is set to kick off this week at the Country Club and Casino at Prospect.
The event, created to both add value to and assist in the future expansion of the industrial hemp industry and its community, is set to hold various workshops throughout Tuesday.
However, one of the conference's first official events is scheduled to take place at 6pm on Wednesday, when a variety of products, completely, or partially, made from hemp, are set to be on display for attendees to view as they enjoy a range of food from a hemp inspired menu.
The display is expected to include products created by BMW and Levi Strauss, as well as garments created by three TasTAFE gratuates, who came highly recommended to the AIHC by their tutor, Sarah Birtwistle.
"I'm so excited to see their garments, and I'm very happy they get to show off their hard work," she said.
The three women, Chris Bingham, Isabel Fulton, and Danielle Blay, each created the designs for their garments while studying a certificate IV in applied fashion, design, and merchandising.
Ms Bingham said hemp was not only easy to use, breathable, and comfortable to wear, but was also beneficial to the environment.
"It's biodegradable, and also doesn't need extra water to grow, therefore reducing irrigation, and its waste products are also usable, so it's very sustainable and nothing gets wasted," she said.

Event manager, and Tasmanian Hemp Association executive officer, Andi Lucas, said the event had been challenging to organise, due to COVID-19, however, she was happy with the numbers set to attend the event, which had reached well into the hundreds so far.
"We're excited to teach Tasmanians about the versatility and many ways hemp can be used when creating products across a range of industries," she said.
