A 32-year-old man died at the scene after he was shot in the upper body before 1am on Tuesday inside a house on Douglas Drive, Bridgewater.
Two other people who were present at the house at the time are assisting police with their inquiries, but the offender has remained at large.
Detective Acting Inspector Kelly Taylor said their search was focusing on specific addresses in the Bridgewater and Gagebrook areas, utilising a range of police resources.
"We've had drones involved in the search, we've had dive squad involved, search and rescue, also extensive forensic examination has been done at the scene," she said.
The location of the fatal Bridgewater shooting:
"If anyone has any information regarding the incident, the location of the offender or the firearm used, we strongly encourage them to get in contact with police."
Police searched a nearby reserve - including drains and bushland - in an attempt to locate the firearm, clothing and any other items related to the shooting. Police were aware of the type of firearm used, but would not disclose this information.
Detective Acting Inspector Taylor said there was no risk to the wider community.
"Our investigations indicate that this was a targeted attack," she said.
"There is no immediate threat to the community and we have a number of resources allocated to locating the offender in this matter."
Police would not detail how the offenders were known to each other, or if they were known to police prior to the shooting.
Detective Acting Inspector Taylor said there was a possibility that others in the community were harbouring the offender.
"I would encourage anyone doing that, and the offender themselves, to present themselves to police," she said.
"You're obviously implicating yourself in this offence by harbouring that person."
Anyone with information about the incident of the location of the offender can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
