Tasmanian cricket fans young and old were out in force last night to cheer on the Hobart Hurricanes as the Big Bash rolled into town.
Excitement among fans was high before the action began, with many buoyed by the possibility of the island state playing host to the fifth Ashes Test in the weeks to come.
The battle between the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers at UTAS stadium was the largest public gathering in Launceston since the AFL finals earlier this year, with fans from across the state turning out for the springtime clash.
On Tuesday, Premier Peter Gutwein announced the cap on people attending UTAS would be removed after he received public health advice, which saw several cricket fans from Hobart drive up to Launceston to attend last nights game.
