Virgin Australia's Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Alistair Hartley said the airline was proud to launch another inaugural Tasmanian service, as booking demand into the Apple Isle continued to increase.
"Virgin Australia is really excited to see the first commercial Launceston to Gold Coast service in two decades," he said.
"For the people of Launceston this new service provides access to one of the country's most sought-after tourist attractions, offering a gateway to some incredible beaches and world-class theme parks."
Visit Northern Tasmania Chief Executive Chris Griffin said the Launceston to Gold Coast route was a great opportunity for tourism and business trade for both cities.
"We have seen really promising results from direct flights from Adelaide and Perth, with many in the industry sharing how many visitors from these states have arrived," he said.
Launceston Airport Chief Executive Shane O'Hare seconded this and said frequent flights between the two cities would benefit people and businesses locally.
"We're connecting Launceston directly to the Gold Coast ... enabling regular visitation for family and friends, holiday opportunities and greater business."
