REAL ESTATE ROYAL COMMISSION
PEOPLE in the real estate industry have a lot to answer. Their greed and non-consumable practices are a disgrace to consumers and have now made it almost impossible for the average person to buy a home, let alone rent one. How can a property purchased in 2015 for $295,000 now be worth just under $1 million? It is a disgrace and all driven by agent greed.

Someone in government needs to have the gumption to ensure a royal commission into real estate practices, commissions charged plus their add on costs. Other factors are driving up prices, but real estate is the major player and they need to be stopped with urgency.
Tony LeFevre, Bridport.
WEST TAMAR ROADWORKS
IT'S all rather clever, very skilful, most efficient and tending to spooky silence the way West Tamar Road is being re-sealed out of hours under the cover of darkness in the stillness of the night. A few flashing lights maybe but the festive season is upon us.
Brilliant. Super work chaps.
Jim Dickenson, Launceston.
THE FEDERAL LIBERALS
WITH the impending resignations of at least two federal Liberal government members I would expect to see a call for suitable applicants to replace the same.
If I was a cynic, the necessary duty statement, in no particular order, might read as follows: preferably have had a single career as a political staffer; be focused on the party and its benefactors as the first and highest priority; must have a consummate ability to obfuscate and dodge any legitimate questions posed to them by the media or anyone else; will have a license to operate (with high distinction) pork barrels; will be devoid of any affinity with maintaining the natural environment; will have Teflon qualities, that is "mud will not stick" and "nothing to see here folks".
Paul Chisholm, Launceston.
MEDIA MEDICAL IRONY
IN reference to the front page of (The Examiner, December 1) regarding diabetes, the sick irony was a reflection on life in 2021.
The main story on the prevalence of diabetes getting worse in modern times, arguably from junk food promoted constantly to our kids, plus grog. And underneath a government advertisement extolling how safe their approved virus jabs are. The main difference is that a billion hits on Google can inform interested citizens about alternative treatments, views and therapies.
To deal with diabetes versus the government media crackdown on any similar alternative views when the virus is involved.
Social media-driven politics and advertising via "Scotty from Marketing" have a lot to answer for in how serious community issues get a balanced view in the world these days.
Nick Moore, Perth.
COSTLY ASHLEY RENOVATIONS
IN light of the premier's assurance that Ashley will close in 2024, how much more money is the government intending to spend on the Ashley renovations that are being done at the moment? The $600,000 for fencing that hasn't started yet, $72,000 for upcoming artwork, anyone's guess on the building extensions that appear to be nearing completion, and then the taxpayer will have to pay to have the lot demolished.
Good fiscal management?
Peter Wileman, Westbury.
OPEN MEANS OPEN
MY brother and his young family are due to arrive in Tasmania on December 15 for a family Christmas after not seeing them for a few years. Open on December 15 means open, any changes are ridiculous.
Patricia Tolond, Cleveland.
TRAVELLERS' CONFUSION
WHAT is the point of getting us to vaccinate if you continue to close the border.
I am flying out to Europe and I'm not sure if I can return home for Christmas.
The Tasmanian and Australian governments ask us to vaccinate and as a reward, we are allowed to travel again. Now they go back on their word. Have absolutely no trust in the Tasmanian government.
As an owner of an international luxury travel company I have been severely affected for almost two years and was about to celebrate the revival of my business.
Do a 72-hour quarantine with a negative PCR test, that is more than enough.
Patricia Gordon, Launceston.
QUARANTINE REGULATIONS
I FAIL to comprehend why the rules are so different for international travellers to Australia. Whereas Australians on returning from state to state have to quarantine for 14 days with G2G pass, and international travellers only have to quarantine for 72 hours. It is absurd.
Brett Wright, Carlton Beach.
NEW VACCINATION RULES
AND we have been conned again.
After December 15, we are supposed to be open and free, but not in Tasmania. Having to display a vaccination certificate is not a sign of freedom. It is a sign of servility.
Alan Porter, West Launceston.
GUTWEIN'S OUT OF TOUCH
THE Premier has shown again how out of touch he is with Tasmanians. His new rules are as clear as mud and make no allowances for dual purpose venues. Peter Gutwein continuous overreach into our private lives, our right to earn a living and for businesses to operate in a manner that's best for them, must stop. Any future election, state or federal. I will be campaigning for One Nation.
