Premier Peter Gutwein said the government had started planning to ensure that the vaccinations would be rolled out as quickly as possible.
"I encourage parents to get their children vaccinated when the vaccine becomes available in Tasmania to further protect your family and your community," Mr Gutwein said.
"The best way to protect the five-to-11-year-old age group in the interim is for the whole family to get vaccinated."
Subject to advice from Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation, the aim will be to commence the rollout from January 10, 2022.
Students are set to return to school on February 9, and Mr Gutwein said he expected all school-aged children to have the opportunity to receive at least one dose before the first term starts in 2022.
