On Wednesday afternoon, the couple celebrated 70 years of marriage at Grindelwald, surrounded by close family and treasured friends.
The couple met as children, before reconnecting when they were both working at the Launceston General Hospital and it wasn't long before love blossomed.
Both hailing from big families, Mr and Mrs West both have a love of spending time with family, and daughter Bronwyn Holden remembered family trips with fondness.
"They used to travel all around in the caravan, we used to always go away on family trips and they were great days," Ms Holden said.
"They love being around family and friends, and they've really been looking forward to today."
For Ms Holden, her parents' marriage has been an inspiration and a constant reminder of the importance of family.
Son Adrian West said planning the celebration had given him the opportunity to stop and reminisce on a lifetime of treasured family memories.
He said his parents' secret to a successful marriage had been to keep things simple and not to live beyond their means.
"To enjoy life, kiss and keep it simple. That's their philosophy," he said.
