Amid mass-cancellations of Tasmanian festivals, with many organisers citing capacity restrictions as the main contributing factor, one event that originated in the midst of the pandemic, celebrated its second edition.

Verandah Music Festival took place in the historic town of Evandale this weekend. Co-ordinator Jeff McClintock said the 2-day affair, which won the Northern Midlands community event of the year in 2020, managed to work around capacity restrictions by spreading out its 31 acts over 11 verandahs.
"We started performing on our verandah during last year's lockdown, and we had so much fun, plus people seemed to really enjoy it too, so we decided to turn it into a festival," he said.
"Evandale is full of these gorgeous old verandahs, some of them on the street, and a lot of them set back in really beautiful gardens, and they're actually great at projecting sound too."
Mr McClintock believed the event's second year had been a "raging success" and said 50 per cent more tickets had been pre-sold compared to last year's installment.
