The attack occurred before 3.30am on Thursday when a knife-wielding alleged murderer entered her house on Prossers Forest Road, stabbing a man to death and the woman to the point she was left in a critical condition.
Tasmania Police Northern District Detective Inspector Mel Groves said yesterday she was undergoing surgery to stabilise her from the wounds that she had received.
By Friday morning the woman's condition had been upgraded to stable, but she remained in the Intensive Care Unit at the Launceston General Hospital.
The alleged stabber, who police say was known to the victims, remained on the run more than 24 hours later with a significant man hunt continuing.
Detective Inspector Mel Groves on Friday morning again reiterated a plea to the man to hand himself in so the situation could be safely resolved.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, which had been activated in the search for the man on Thursday mid-morning, continued in its efforts to track him down.
It resumed its search about 9.30am on Friday when it hovered above the broad bushland directly across the road from the house at 36 Prossers Forest Road - where the alleged murder occurred.
Detective Inspector Mel Groves on Thursday afternoon revealed the alleged murder weapon had not yet been found, but maintained the man they were seeking was not a threat to the wider community.
Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to phone police immediately on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
