As the end of the year approaches, grade 10 students are on the hunt for leavers' dinner dresses and cars, but restrictions may put a dampener on parents and friends sharing in the celebrations.

Jane van Dam, of Riverside, has been left frustrated and disappointed after receiving an email from Queechy High School on November 23 stating that she would be unable to attend her child's celebration dinner.
"Unfortunately, we have been told that we are not able to have any spectators at the celebration dinner as students arrive," the email said. "This is in line with department guidelines that the school needs to abide by."
The letter outlined that parents, carers, friends, and family would not be allowed to be present while students exited their vehicles at the Tailrace Centre unless they were dropping off.
"Again, I am so sorry to have to tell you this - If anything changes, we will let you know ASAP," the email continued.
Ms van Dam said the school sounded just as disappointed as the parents and friends of graduating grade 10 students were.
A Department of Education spokesperson said end-of-year celebration events were able to proceed, but in accordance with Public Health directions including venue density requirements - one person per two square metres.
"The decision to hold celebrations remains a school-based decision. Local arrangements are needed to meet individual site requirements, including whether parents/family members are able to attend or not," they said.
"Celebrations taking place off-site need to comply with the venue's COVID Safety plan."
Ms van Dam said the decision to not allow family or friends to attend the event was unfair, especially as most people were now double vaccinated.
The mother said she was open to other possibilities that would mean she, and other parents, would be able to attend.
