Dr Bell recently donated $2000 to The Examiner's Empty Stocking Appeal on behalf of Esmeralda Enterprises Environmental, a group which manages a 260-hectare property at Little Pipers River.
"I've been retired as a GP for 14 years and I'm involved in a lot of environmental and conservation activities," Dr Bell said.
"Preserving the community and the people that live in it is just as important as preserving the environment
"People are doing it tough. There are many who are not just on the breadline, but below it and they are struggling. We need to help those who need assistance."
The appeal, which closes on December 31, has so far raised $17,539.90.
Anyone wanting to donate can visit one of the various participating newsagencies, at The Examiner's office or via bank transfer.
