More familiar scouring Victoria's internationally sourced flower markets after working in the Melbourne CBD for almost a decade, Mr Wise found the selection of imported flowers in Tasmania a challenge.

"It's fine getting stuff there, but by the time the flowers get to Tasmania they've usually been held up in quarantine again - they're not as fresh and they've been sprayed to hell," he said.

Facing that hurdle, Mr Wise decided to try to source what he could from within the state, a task that presented another challenge in itself.

"It was hard. Even just trying to contact growers because a lot of them don't advertise because they're not selling to the general public," he said.

But as Mr Wise would uncover one grower, they would put him in contact with another, and so on, until a network of Northern Tasmanian flower producers began to emerge from around the region.

"Basically, all of my suppliers are now from North Tasmania. I have flowers from Ulverston, my lilies come from Flowerdale, my chrysanthemums comes from the East Coast," he said.

"And that's just the major guys. There's also a bunch of small seasonal growers that are just growing out in their paddocks. They're growing things like snapdragons, vernaculars and bulbs through the season and then they take winter off," he said.

Through this network of Tasmanian growers, Mr Wise established his new Launceston shop, Botanisor Florist, which opened early this year.

The shop stocks exclusively Tasmanian-grown flowers, alongside other locally made gifts, cards and ornaments.

"The flowers are just so much fresher and they last longer," he said.

Leaving Launceston for Hobart in his early 20s, Mr Wise went on to travel broadly, both across the country and internationally, spending several years working in London.

Similar to his 30 years of travelling, Mr Wise admits path to floristry was far from straightforward.

"I originally studied horticulture and then moved into fashion. One day I saw the florist and just though, 'I'd really like to do that.'"

"Setting in up in Launceston has been really fun. I know floristry but I've had to learn everything about the business."
