St Cecilia School of Music's annual Springing Into Summer Concert is set to take place within the near two century old walls of the City Baptist Church.
Many of Tasmania's finest young musicians will perform at the Frederick St establishment over the course of two sessions this Saturday, with a 4:30pm matinee performance scheduled to be followed by an evening edition at 7:30pm.
The two concerts will each run for 70 minutes, and to help keep the concert COVID-safe there will not be an interval. An abundance of musical flavours are set to feature, including classical works by Mendelssohn and Elgar, to contemporary music from the likes of Snow Patrol and Secret Garden.
Several orchestral groups will be tasked with performing those pieces, including the St Cecilia Chamber Orchestra, Sonore Strings, Da Capo Strings and the St Cecilia Massed Ensemble.
St Cecilia Chamber Orchestra director Michael Stocks said he was excited to showcase the range of styles and pieces the ensemble had rehearsed throughout the year, during their two-hour weekly sessions.
"The music presented by our ensembles is diverse, and we pride ourselves on showcasing up-and-coming soloists as well," he said.
One of those soloists, Georgia Hillier, will perform the 2nd movement of César Franck's violin sonata in A major, considered to be one of the best sonatas for violin and piano ever written.
Ms Hillier began playing the violin 11 years ago and participated in her first major solo performance in 2016.
She said had been learning the solo for most of the year and will also be performing it in a few weeks as a part of her licentiate diploma, which is a diploma in performance.
"I'm looking forward to playing in the church, especially because of its acoustics, which allow for a really beautiful sound," she said.
Joining her, after being awarded 100 per cent in her solo section at the St. Cecilia Performance Challenge in August, young vocalist Molly Spurway was invited to perform The Birth of the Blues, at the event, accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and children, and $50 for families and are available from Barratts Music, and there will also be limited door sales.
