King Meadows' own Launnie Kebab House has been awarded a statewide accolade by online ordering app Menulog.
Aptly named the "Menulogies", the annual awards highlight the restaurants and eateries most popular with the app's users and include awards for "Best Meal To Order After Getting Dumped" and "Top Cuisines Ordered While Watching Award Shows".
Alongside the award's more peculiar categories are a string of state-based people's choice awards. With voting now closed and the numbers tallied, Launnie Kebab House in Kings Meadows has been named the 2021 Menulogie People's Choice Award winner for Tasmania.
Owner Mahammad Niral Iqbalbhai Vohra only took over from the eatery's previous operator six months ago, but said since then he has remained focused on improving the quality on offer.
"We've improved the quality of our ingredients and we pay a lot of attention to the smaller details, like making sure the place is nice to be in," he said.
"Now, when people visit they've started coming back more and more," he said.
Originally from India, Mr Iqbalbhai Vohra moved to Launceston to study maritime logistics at UTAS. After graduating, he heard the eatery was up for sale and decided to buy it.
"I saw a lot of potential in the Launnie Kebab House. I lived in Melbourne before here and I think there's a lot more opportunities in Launceston" he said.
Looking forward, Mr Iqbalbhai Vohra wants to one day open a franchise, which he hopes to operate with his brother.
