Legana residents have been invited to provide feedback on the master plan for the development of Legana Primary School at 612 West Tamar Highway.
It is the second round of community consultation for the $24 million project after 300 submissions were received in an initial round of public consultation in February last year.
The master plan shows the school will include a library, multi-purpose hall, school gardens, shared community sporting facilities, and an onsite community oral health clinic.
West Tamar mayor Christina Holmdahl said the proposed development was essential for the growing region.
"With the population of Legana expanding and predicted to treble in the next 10-15 years, a primary school is a priority," she said.
"Some of the existing primary schools in the municipality are at capacity so the completion of the proposed Legana school will facilitate the expanding community and alleviate the pressure on surrounding schools."
Cr Holmdahl said she was pleased to see further public consultation given the importance of the project for the community.
"We're pleased that there is another round of consultation with the community and Education Department," she said.
"This will ensure that the school is what the community wants and needs."
The master plan was developed by local architects Cumulus Studio in consultation with key stakeholders, with the state government also issuing a request for tender for a component of early site works.
The works will include construction of the temporary access road and car park, and pave the way for the major building works to begin later in 2022 following a separate tender process.
Education minister Sarah Courtney said the master plan had been shaped by extensive engagement with community and stakeholders.
"We know that schools are the heart of a community and that this will be an exciting place of connection for people in Legana," Ms Courtney said.
The primary school was initially proposed by West Tamar Council in 2013, citing the need to cater for an expected population boom in the decade following.
At the time, West Tamar Councillor Tim Woinarski said Legana would be the next Kingston or Sorell.
Early site works are expected to begin next year, with the project to be completed in 2024.
