Launceston City, United, Riverside and Northern Rangers confirm Northern Championship soccer coaches

With the season still several months away, the four clubs have been going through the process of annual general meetings and coaching confirmations.

Among the men's teams, Launceston United 500-game life member Robert Murray has moved to Riverside, Launceston City stalwart Peter Savill has jumped ship to Northern Rangers while former Rangers coach Fernando Munoz continues at Launceston United.

Meanwhile, long-serving Launceston City player and coach Justin Dyer remains in charge at the Prospect club.

The women's teams are far less clear with only Stephen Pearce confirmed in a Northern Championship role at Northern Rangers.

Launceston United life member Robert Murray has been appointed Riverside Olympic's Northern Championship coach for 2022.

Described as "a skilful and hard-working midfielder" on Olympic's Facebook post, Murray coached United and Launceston City in the Northern Championship and was also an assistant NPL coach.

"He joins our coaching stable at a pivotal time, bringing with him a wealth of experience, and we can't wait for him to start," Olympic said.

Alex Gaetani remains in charge of the NPL Tasmania side and the Windsor Park club said they are in the process of finalising the coaches for the women's Northern Championship side.

Meanwhile, Gaetani's former assistant Alan Eadie has been appointed as club technical director.

Eadie will oversee junior SAP and NPL Academy programs.

Launceston United has announced the re-signing of Fernando Munoz as senior men's team coach and club technical director for a further three seasons.

"This is an exciting opportunity for further development and continuation of the work Fernando has started in 2021 across the club," it said on Facebook.

The Chilean, who spent a year at Northern Rangers before moving to Birch Avenue, said he was very happy with the agreement.

"I will continue to work with the coaching group to achieve our on-field goals, and importantly help to maintain the club's position as the largest club in Tasmania with over 800 players and a place where players want to learn, succeed and develop under an attractive style of play.

"With good football, smart players, trained coaches, supportive sponsors and an involved community, I am convinced that our future will be positive. With the support of the club committee and wider club community, I will continue to invest all of my efforts and energy into the club and bring my vision of success to Launceston United."

United is reviewing applications for the role of women's NC coach with Frank Compton and Lynden Prince set to continue in charge of the Women's Super League after a successful maiden campaign in the statewide comp.

Northern Rangers have announced their men's Northern Championship coach for next season will be Peter Savill.

The Lancashire-born former Leeds United player, who moved to Tasmania in 1980, played with City until the age of 40 and went on to coach them, along with Northern Rangers, Devonport Strikers, South Hobart and Hobart Zebras.

Stephen Pearce will again take charge of the women having led them to a second-place finish last season.

Rangers have also announced that Febey Chugg and Zac Chugg have joined the board as directors. Gavin Stone will continue as president with Marshall Pooley as vice-president, Cherie Chugg secretary, Nic Edwards treasurer and Jim Ower and Nick Scharm directors.

Mitchell Billing, who has a long association with the club as a player and coach, will coach Rangers' under-18s.

City have confirmed that Justin Dyer will continue to coach their Northern Championship men's team.

The Prospect Park club's women's coach is yet to be named.

Life member and former Rangers NPL coach Lino Sciulli is set to remain in charge of the club's NPL Tasmania side having led them to fifth place last season, recording seven wins.
