Administrators of UK-based NQ Minerals have put NQ subsidiary Keen Pacific on the market.

That includes the Beaconsfield mine - which the company has been working to restore to production - and the Hellyer tailings reprocessing operation west of Cradle Mountain.

Beaconsfield director Pierre Richard said the project was a sound development opportunity and local maintenance was continuing.

Dr Richard said he was confident about its viability.

He said work was continuing at the mine, aiming to identify extra gold sources and support a resumption of mining if new owners chose to proceed.

The historic mine is best known for the dramatic rescue of miners Brant Webb and Todd Russell in 2006.

They were trapped underground for about two weeks after a rock fall.

Their colleague, Larry Knight, was killed.

Hellyer Gold Mines director Steve White said operations were continuing as usual regardless of the proposed sale process.

He said the operation was a going concern in its own right and did not have borrowings owed to NQ.

Hellyer was proceeding with a multi-million-dollar lift to its new tailings storage facility, due for completion in April.

Mr White said the current tailings reprocessing operation extended until at least 2027 and he looked forward to the potential of restarting underground operations under new ownership.

"Since we recommenced operations in 2018, Hellyer Gold Mine has proven itself as a great investment opportunity and a successful trading entity," Mr White said.

Hellyer achieved a $63 million gross profit in 2020.

The Beaconsfield project has permission for processing remaining surface gold stocks.

The resource in the lower part of the old mine is estimated at 483,000 ounces of gold.

"These unmined deep resources present a strong development opportunity," NQ said.

"The offering presents an opportunity to acquire an operational mining site that can produce millions of tonnes in base metals and strong precious metals by-products, along with an opportunity to restart one of Australia's highest grade gold mines with easy access to gold bearing ore at surface, generating early cashflows."

Offers for Beaconsfield and Hellyer are du by December 7.
