On Tuesday, Mount Roland Cableway director Justin Carman announced the project had been formally discontinued.

Mr Carman attributed the decision to the "significant challenges" of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The nature of a disease that cannot be seen or easily fought, with no predictable end in sight, is unlike any other business interruption event that could have been anticipated or tested for in project forecasting," Mr Carman said.
"Rather than wait an indeterminable time for the pandemic and its effects to abate, the committee has resolved to discontinue the project.
"The decision creates an immense sense of loss for all of us."
Tom Wootton, CEO of tourism body West by North-West, similarly said the project being abandoned was "a loss in terms of vision".
"But then again, I doubt the vision is dead and buried.
"We might expect to see the project rebirthed in the future sometime. It was very much in its early stages and had been for a long time, but here's hoping the dream can remain alive."
However, Kentish Deputy Mayor Don Thwaites said the announcement may have left many people with a sense of relief.
"I think there'll be a lot of people very relieved that they don't have to go into battle," he said.
"People from Sheffield and Kentish in general, they love the mountain and feel very protective towards it.
"Anything that would put a stain or a mark or interfere in anyway they were not happy with."
He said the community had long been split over the project, but believed the majority opposed the project and were more passionate in their opposition.
"I'm personally relieved to have it off the agenda, because it was just simmering away there [with] potential to divide the community."
Mr Carman said the decision would allow proponents to continue other projects.
