The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, in conjunction with RANT Arts, has signed a three-year agreement to hold the Women's Art Prize Tasmania finalist exhibition in the North.
City of Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten said he was thrilled with the announcement and looked forward to welcoming the exhibition.
"The council is delighted to be working in collaboration with RANT Arts to bring the Women's Art Prize Tasmania to our beautiful city in what will be its 20th anniversary year," he said.

"Through this prestigious art prize, we hope to promote and encourage even more local and emerging female artists from across our region to become involved in the arts, as well as to increase the awareness of gender issues right across Northern Tasmania."
The competition's three categories include the $15,000 Trawalla Foundation Acquisitive Prize, the $3000 Bell Bay Aluminium People's Choice award, and the $1500 Zonta International Area 5 Emerging Artist prize.
RANT executive co-director Kitty Taylor said the prize was committed to celebrating women's resilience, and the quality and commitment to their practice.
Entries for the prize open on November 1 and close January 31.
