The WNBL announced that Launceston will host the Bendigo Spirit and Southside Flyers at the Silverdome on March 7 as one of two games in the state.
Southside Flyers' Ian Coutts said the untapped Tasmanian market was one the club had their eyes on for some time.
"Gerry Ryan [Flyers' owner] initially said we should start looking at it, we know there'll be a push for the WNBL team from Tassie in the future and Gerry loves promoting the game," he said.
"So I think it was about how we can be part of growing it, grow the game and grow women's sport through games in Tassie."
The WNBL push could be sooner than imagined with both Basketball Tasmania and the Tasmania JackJumpers recently confirming conversations with Basketball Australia over a WNBL franchise.
The two organisations agree that a franchise for the 2023-24 season could be a workable timeframe.

Coutts said that Launceston fans would be able to watch some of Australia's best talent grace the Silverdome court.
"If you're looking at the quality of basketball, there's not much better than what we're going to bring down to Tasmania and that's not about us, that's just what the WNBL is about," he said.
"It's really good basketball and I think the crowd will enjoy it."
The match-up will likely see several players from Australia's Tokyo 2020 team face-off, including Flyers teammates Jenna O'Hea and Sara Blicavs as well as Bendigo Spirit's Leilani Mitchell.
During their stay in the Apple Isle, the Spirit and Flyers side will team-up with Tasmania's NBL1 sides, the Launceston Tornadoes and Hobart Chargers, to conduct junior basketball clinics.
"It is much more than having two WNBL games, this is also about elite teams being involved with the community, promoting the game and inspiring more females to be involved in sport," said Ryan.
Australian Opals captain O'Hea was excited to make the trip south.
"The team is excited to be playing games in Tasmania, being able to promote basketball and visit schools and local communities during our week-long visit."
